MP3 The Molenes - Songs of Sin and Redemption

Addictive, melodic, twang-infected songs laced with an atmospheric lyricism heavy on the imagery of the American experience.

12 MP3 Songs
COUNTRY: Alt-Country, ROCK: Americana

Details:
The Molenes forge hard-twang melodies and driving steam-train rhythms into compelling songs that have been firing up the stages of the Northeast’s burgeoning Americana/Alt-Country scene since the band’s inception in 2005. Evoking the burnished lyricism of SON VOLT, the organic atmospherics of WILCO, and the rootsy swagger of STEVE EARLE, The Molenes’ second album, Songs of Sin and Redemption, takes the listener on a tour through both the dark and light sides of the American experience, a jaunt through the heartland—both figurative and geographical—that’s in turns jolting and unsettling, inspiring and uplifting. Singer/guitarist/songwriter Dave Hunter weaves real-life tales of both modest hope and quiet desperation that are punctuated with incisive, compelling guitar hooks, while band members Andrew Russell (bass, vocals), Thomas Ferry (keyboards, vocals), and Zach Field (drums) propel a journey that navigates between rural passes of heart-wrenching beauty and urban alleys littered with dispiriting squalor.

Of The Molenes’ 2006 debut album, This Car is Big, Kevin Finn, writing in Boston’s The Noise, raved, “A solid dose of top down, windows open, dirt road kind of Americana. This is unquestionably a winner.” Marty England of the Portsmouth Herald declared, “A great record… It bears the innocence of Whiskeytown''s Faithless Street, the wide-swing tremolo of X''s Los Angeles, and the simplicity of Springsteen''s Nebraska, complete with haunting harmonicas and earthquake whammy bar groans.” With this sleeper of a debut release, The Molenes achieved myriad press reviews and airplay on commercial, independent, and public radio stations across North America, in nine European countries, and in Australia and New Zealand. Closer to home, the band featured live on “The Front Porch” on NHPR, and was played on Sarah Willis’s “In Tune By Ten” on MPBN, as well as being played on WMBR in Boston, WHEB, WUNH, and WSCA in New Hampshire, and WCLZ and WPOR in Portland, ME.

With its increased depth, imagination and artistry, and with the band coalescing into a formidable unit, Songs of Sin and Redemption promises an even wider reach and greater appeal, and is looking to propel The Molenes to the top tier of Americana, Alt-Country and Roots Rock artists.
