Croatian Songs
Croatia is an old country and a new state. Through the snippets of the world media, the birth of the new state and its circumstances were initially shaped to an image of a wounded and a war-torn region. Some still may have such recollections, but nothing is farther from truth than that today. Today, there is peace in Croatia, and the time has arrived to return to the usual business (tourism primarily), and celebrate other marvelous things from this wonderful country…like its songs.
In re-creating the folk tunes from his home country, Branimir Krstic was reconnecting the songs to some styles found elsewhere in the classical music. Although his approach was slightly more modern, he is ready to acknowledge the influence from the works of greats such as Chopin, Schumann, Lauro, and – especially – Haydn, the first great Croatian composer.
The collected guitar works of Branimir Krstic consists mainly of world premiere recordings. Brilliantly performed by the author, who also supervised every step of its production, the series not only introduces a unique and original body of work to the world audience, but also shows that the most suitable way to present such works is through creatively harnessing the power and possibilities of the internet.
