‘TALES FROM THE FUNKY UNDERGROUND VOL: 1’
With the release of his first album project as a leader, bassist/composer Frank Felix has returned to his funky musical roots to drop an album dripping in the funk, soul, r&b and jazz influences that shaped his musical path.
The album is a varied affair.
There’s the big, brassy jazz funk of the Crusaders influenced opening cut ‘Sugarfoot’ and the early 80’s club vibe & funky bass driven ‘Club 44’ featuring Snake Davis on sax. We’re also taken to JB’s territory with the hookfest ‘Waditiz’ and the rolling shuffle of ‘Work It’
For more soulful moments look out for the bass feature ‘Remember When’ and the guys tip their hats to Johnny ‘Guitar’ Watson with ‘Crazy’ penned by F.U. Express member Jes Platt.
We even have a return to disco days with the latin drive of ‘Los Galacticos Hustle’ so break out the glitterballs!
“I just did what I liked, how I liked”
Calling on the services of friends old & new from his days as a sideman Felix and his band the F.U. Express really deliver the goods.
“I really wanted to make something I would actually want to buy if I heard it and to be proud of it”
Check it out!
