The Big Easy Jazz Band
When David and Barbara Brown left their native New Orleans and moved to Northern California, they didn''t expect to take part of New Orleans with them. But as the song goes "Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans", soon David and Barbara were missing the music they grew up with.
In 1997, the Big Easy Jazz Band was formed. "We''ve integrated our own New Orleans sound into swing and dixieland music," David said. David, a multi-instrumentalist brings a wealth of experience and interest to the band. As musical director, he arranges tunes and swings them out on guitar. Barbara likes to play the drums as if she was out on the floor dancing to the tunes. Jack Braet, a wonderful saxophone and clarinet player, brings an inspired soulful hipness and Daney Dawson, our awesome bass player, locks it all down.
Our recording was done "live in the studio" with no punch-ins or overdubs, just like we would perform in person.
In 2005 after Hurricane Katrina demolished New Orleans, The Big Easy Jazz Band did a benefit for New Orleans as their last official live gig, although the band can be coaxed out for special events. (Equipment does get heavy) Since then, The Big Easy Jazz Band has been rehearsing and recording the tunes as they enjoyed playing them for gigs and dances and the audiences over the years. Currently they are working on a new project featuring original compositions - some inspired by Hurricane Katrina, some inspired for the love of New Orleans, and all for the love of good times and hot jazz.
