This album is the second in a series of Philippine folk dance recordings, as arranged by some of the best-known Filipino composers, performed by the Rondalla under the baton of Juan Silos Jr.
Villar Records Int’l sincerely hope that these pieces will contribute their just share in arousing the Filipino’s pride in their rich and distinctive musical heritage.

1). GARAMBAL: Derived from two Spanish words “gran” and “valse” (which means “grand waltz”) corrupted into one word, “garambal”. The dance came from Camiling,Tarlac.

2). BINADYONG : A lively dance from the province of Iloilo.

3). ESPERANZA: This is a lively dance from Camarines Sur. It was supposedly named after a lonely maiden named “Esperanza”. The girl wears “Balintawak” or “Patadyong” and the boy “Barong Tagalog” with white trousers.

4). PUKOL: This dance can be traced to one of the oldest native games among children in the Visayan Islands. The game is called “Pokoe” (pronounced pokoi) in Aklan, Capiz and “Pukol” in the other parts of Panay. The dancers use coconut shells. The shells are struck together rhythmically in time with the music.

5). MANANGUETE : A Visayan occupational dance found in Kolambugan, Lanao, among the settlers from the Islands. It depicts in pantomine all the stages of “tuba”(liquid taken from the coconut bud) gathering.

6). ROGELIA: This is a courtship dance from the province of La Union.

7). PALU-PALO : This dance was inspired by the rhythmic beat of the “Palu-Palo”, a long piece of wood used by women washing clothes on the flat surface of a rock along the river’s edge.

8). PANDANG-PANDANG : A very popular wedding dance in the province of Antique performed by the bride and the groom while wedding guests and relatives shower them with money and gifts.

9). MARAMION : A courtship dance popular in the islands of Cebu and Bohol. “Maramion” means fragrant or beautiful.

10). NASUDI: Another picturesque folk dance which is a favorite reportoire of various folk dance groups.

11). KATALANA: This dance was probably brought here by the Spanish settlers from
Catalonia, Spain. This is a very festive dance popular in Iloilo.

12). LA JOTA : This festival dance is known throughout the country in different .versions. The one recorded here is from Paoay, Ilocos Norte. La Jota is also danced during wedding and baptismal parties.
