TUGGS.T.A.R PRESENTS SEASON OF LOST LOVE
There are few poets born in the UK that can stand shoulder to shoulder with the lyrical innovation of the best poets in the U.S. But! In London born Tuggs.t.a.r we have something different.
If Nas and Tuggs.t.a.r lived parallel lives, it would’ve been Tuggs.t.a.r who would’ve brought out the innovative Illmatic… And it would’ve been Nas would’ve had the insight to put out SEASON OF LOST LOVE.
In short, his debut Album SOLL is something special. Don’t believe me? Peep the tracks. Sure, an American audience may be surprised by the British flow first time round. But I dare you to listen on and you’ll find the words endearing, tempting and hypnotic. I guarantee it.
Tuggs.t.a.r hails from London’s underground Spoken Word community. He’s been a champion of the bubbling scene there since 2002. Not content with just the British island, he honed his craft after a year’s placement in Canada during 2001. There he managed to be influenced by Americans, West Indians, Africans, Canadians and of course his own British environment. So you have arguably one of the most well rounded performers you can get.
Originally from Ghana West Africa, he takes pride in his cultural lineage, and has found a medium to be able to communicate simultaneously to a multi-cultural audience, while remaining true to himself. Something very few people have the ability to do.
He has been called the UK Saul Williams, The British Chuck D. But he likes to see himself as simply Tuggs.t.a.r; the man with the mission to tell the untold stories. His passion on every word speaks through the speakers, the page or the mic and penetrates your soul.
I could go on and on about him and his achievements. How he garnered a name on the Slam poetry scene. How he was the winner of the U.S vs. U.K poetry slam in 2003. Or how he became the first ever UK finalist in Toronto International Poetry Slam (TIPS). Or his Book The Way of the Word, first E.P From Here to There and Home Again, his journalist exploits his poetical film The Return Leg or accepting to be a columnist in the first national column dedicated to the Spoken Word.
Tuggs.t.a.r’s biggest gripe is that the power of the spoken word has only been exposed to a small niche audience. To combat this, he has produced a magnificent album in Season of Lost Love with some fabulous production to go with it.
The album criss-crosses between exploring the problems males and females have in relationships and the challenging vocation of being an independent artist.
Only released in February 2008, it has already been ranked as one of the buys of the year. Check the website https://www.tradebit.com for comments.
