Strictly Country Records is proud to present this wonderful and very special Skyland folk-bluegrass CD, “Moon over the Water.” Wonderful, because all tracks are performed with skill and feeling, and special, because these are the final recordings of Theo Lissenberg, one of the finest singers in this genre.
The recorded material is a beautiful reflection of the music performed by this unique acoustic trio during the last few years.
From the liner notes by Chris Jones, Nashville, Tennessee:
…"Your Long Journey", a Doc and Rosa Lee Watson song that features Theo''s fine clawhammer banjo work as well as his singing, aptly captures this combination of joy and pain. "Your Long Journey" is also representative of how successfully the three voices of Theo, Elly Beurskens and Bruno van Hoek have blended together on this project.
…. I found that I was listening to music that was both skillfully executed and heartfelt. As lead singers, both Theo and Elly have warm and soulful voices that are also very much their own, stylistically
.…Skyland''s members are all multi-instrumentalists, which make it possible for them to perform a range of material and give each song a unique treatment. From outstanding originals like Elly''s "Tender", Theo''s "Stony Man Mountain", or Bruno''s "Shorttrack Shuffle", to traditional and contemporary material from a variety of well-chosen sources, the instrumentation and arrangements are always a natural fit.
The fine work of the guest musicians on the CD deserves mention. Joost van Es on fiddle and Paul van Vlodrop on mandolin are both members of 4 Wheel Drive, the bluegrass band that Theo was also a part of, and both make important contributions to this recording. Theo''s daughter, Hester Lissenberg, adds a nice touch as well, playing the bodhran on her father''s instrumental, "Snake Creek Ramble".
