Details:
According to an old Oxford dictionary I''ve got, the word "Animus" means to "Animate the spirit". Each track on the album was chosen because of the "feel" which it captures. I''m a British folksinger at heart and so this collection carries some traditional and contemporary folk songs, plus many of my own new compositions. It''s a no frills recording; just simple voice and plain guitar arrangements. To me, it sounds as stark as a lone busker, singing in a deserted metro subway. Hey "I''ve done my time, deep down in the silver mine."
Just a couple of notes and acknowledgements:
The CD starts with an early studio recorded version, of ''The 7th July''. After this particular take was recorded however, the words of the song still continued to evolve and change. Eventually it became the song entitled ''Shadows'', which is featured on my ''Snowship'' album. Which version is best?
I just can''t tell anymore.
My version of ''Scarborough Fair'' is based on the traditional arrangement of the great UK folksinger, Martin Carthy.
Many years ago my old friend (the late) Tommy Yates wrote ''Rumours'' and ''Life Ahead''. He also showed me this basic way to play them (D-tuned bass string).
The fabulous Mary Asquith taught me ''Cane On the Brassos'', way back in Manchester when I was a kid. I never forgot that song.
My mate, guitarist Steve Odd plays live on both the ''Lemon Tree'' and ''Free As a Bird''.
The rest is more or less down to me.
I hope you like it.
