I am a singer/songwriter from Lexington ,Virginia. It’s a beautiful, historical town nestled in Rockbridge County. I grew up influenced by all types of music: gospel, country, bluegrass and old rock-n-roll. In my teens I discovered Barbra Mandrell, Bonnie Raitt, and the Wilson sisters of Heart. My music is country, tinged with a bit of blues and a lot of soul.
I wrote all of the songs on the CD and poured my heart into each and every one. When asked which is my favorite track, I’m reluctant to name one. To me, songs are like children … albums, like families! Each child is loved, but in each in it’s own way!
I’ve been asked why name the CD “Historical Fiction”? For me it was quite literal. My name “Mellyora” came from a bodice-ripper, historical novel titled Legend of the Seventh Virgin by Victoria Holt, my mother’s favorite author. But I also chose the title because although each song is very real to me, they are not auto-biographical…I speak for many people utilizing my voice to tell their stories.
