Book of James is the brain-child of lead singer/songwriter James R. Lawrence, who had been writing songs since his youth. The name came from the Bible''s Book of James, which seemed a perfect fit, after all, James wrote books, poetry, songs, etc. and he wanted to write about the human experience without preaching. Martin Luther considered The Book of James "an epistle of straw" and nothing of the nature of the gospel in it. It was more advice for the common man on how to live your life right than it was the preaching of an apostle. Its main message is that we need to "call it all joy," the good with the bad in life, appreciate what we have, accept the things that go wrong, forgive others and ourselves, and learn from our mistakes. The debut CD, "Call it all Joy," a quote from Book of James, features some old songs, new songs, and some very personal songs, including "Home At Last" about the death of James'' mother. The songs are relatable and contemporary with a rock sound that is easy on the ears.
