Born December 1 1953, in Dayton Ohio and joined the US Marine Corp in 1972 to 1975 as a machine infantry gunner; received the Legion of Merit award. Disabled from an injury the last six months of duty and spent the next several years isolated and depressed, It was the love of writing and playing music for fellow veterans that was the inspiration needed to move forward.
Accomplishments include: 1997-1998 Wrote a promotional song “Christmas Without Us” for the Toys for Tots program and played live in the local radio stations to increase donations that were down the year before. Donations Received the Commander’s Award for outstanding achievement due to the increase in the donations that year.
1999 - 2004 Wrote and performed a song. “For Love of Life” for a yearly dedication at the Jim Darcy Elementary School in Helena, Montana, honoring the life of Jim Darcy, Warrant Officer, US Army 120th Assault Helicopter Company, 1st Aviation Brigade, Republic of Vietnam.
Wrote a song “In Loving Memory” a tribute to 1st Lt. Sharon Ann Lane. She was a nurse and a hero who gave her life saving others. Performed at the Women’s Memorial dedication in Washington, DC on Memorial Day and then in Canton, Ohio at the memorial dedicated in Sharon’s honor; donated one-hundred copies of the song to the Sharon Lane Foundation.
1998 – 2006 Performed at the Women’s Memorial and Rolling Thunder’s POW and MIA rally held in Washington DC, Memorial weekend. Three of the years were in Kokomo, Indiana for their POW/MIA rally. October 2006, performed at “Operation Stand Down” in Nashville, Tennessee for homeless Veterans.
2005 - 2007 Wrote “Above and Beyond” for the First Medal of Honor recipient of Operation Iraq Freedom, Sgt. First Class Paul Ray Smith and “Calling Them Home” a tribute to the fourteen Ohio Marines of the Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 25th marines who all lost their lives on 8/5/5.
Wrote an additional song “Liberty Square” and performed for the Metal of Honor winners and the dedication of the Liberty Square Monument in Canton, Ohio. Traveling to Columbus, Ohio to perform for the Lima Company’s dedication and to Washington, DC for Rolling Thunder and the Women’s Memorial dedication on Memorial weekend,
Continue to sing to the veterans three days a week for the past two years at Fort Harrison, MT. VA Medical Center, in appreciation for their service. In addition, one-thousand “America’s Heroes” CDs were donated recently for Christmas care packages for the troops.
