I''m a latent musician. I woke up at around 30 years of age, absolutely shocked to find myself a lawyer, disconnected from my spirit and heart. Setting out on my journey home, music quickly became the main mode of transportation, moving me along, carrying me to places I never thought I''d see. A friend, aware of how deeply affected I was by music, lent me her guitar. As I began to learn the basic chords, I discovered an incredibly powerful desire to play. I had never wanted anything as much as I wanted music. So I practiced... a lot. My daughter, Niki, had come into the world a few years earlier and I began singing her to sleep each night. After a few years I started experiences strange and entirely unbidden urges to carry my guitar around and sing to strangers on the streets of Toronto. Though terrified through and through at the prospect of public performances, my spirit insisted and my body complied. Songwriting was another wonderful surprise along the path. Over the period of a few weeks I awoke every morning with a song in my head. I wrote them down, sometimes fiddled a bit with them, found the chord changes and presto, there they were. Many of the songs reflected an impassioned exploration of my Jewish roots.
These are the songs you will find on Carry Me Home, my first cd. I hope you like them. The artwork on the cd, the cover and the label, is also mine. I''m a visual artist...another unexpected piece of me discovered on my way home.
