Matt Eusner, creator of the lyrics and music on the album "Riverstones", is a graduate of Russell High School in Russell, KY. He was attending Marshall University in Huntington, WV when 9/11 hit. This tragic event brought out the poet, and the song, Riverstones, was written within a few weeks time.
Soon a visit to the Army Recruiter got the ball rolling on Matt''s journey to becoming an Army Infantryman. He left for active duty on 17 January 2002 and was assigned to the 2/6 Infantry Regiment, Ist Armored Division stationed in Baumholder, Germany. For 11 months his unit trained like hell for combat as Iraq became more than a widespread rumor. A few thousand young G.I.''s dying to go to war was the basis for the "Baumholder Blues".
In April, 2003, the 1st Armored Division was deployed to Iraq as TASK FORCE BAGHDAD. Tunes like "Callin'' Home", "Charlie Zulu" and "Killing Man" were written during this 15 month deployment.
Coming home from Iraq was Matt''s first time in the states in over 2 years. Several more songs like "The Axe", "Kentucky Rose" and "Jack-o-Line" were written.
Several months later Matt''s active duty contract with the U.S. Army was completed and SGT Matt Eusner became a college student once again. The somber tone of songs like "Girl From the Belvedere" and "House of Fools" were born during this period of addiction and depression.
Matt pulled through those difficult couple of years and took to the studio to record these songs, a testament to his life over the course of the past seven
years. These songs were inspired by first hand experiences, thus giving them authentic feeling and emotion.
" I hope you like these tunes and extract whatever good meaning you can find within them." Matt Eusner
