Details:
Rebecca Fanya is a native New Yorker whose abundant talent, warmth, and charm have made her something of an icon in New York''s downtown musician network. Whether singing backup for Marc Anthony at Madison Square Garden, trilling in Zulu with cast members from The Lion King on Broadway (for the likes of Maya Angelou), laying down studio vocals in front of Harry Belafonte, or tunesmithing in the studio with Grammy®-winning producer/engineer Benny Faccone, Rebecca''s voice has been heard here, there, and everywhere.
Rebecca''s feeling for divergent styles of music developed from an early age and her voice came to be noticed by a wide variety of musical greats. Session calls came from sidemen working with Paul Simon and Bonnie Raitt among others. Gospel singers in the subway and Harlem soukous bands deepened her sense of rhythm and soul. From salsa fusion bands to South African troupes to jazz pick-up sets and jangling folk-rock, Rebecca''s work reflects her passion for the cultural buzz of New York City.
And now, not unlike Sheryl Crow once did, Rebecca is ripening her own songwriting and settling into a style uniquely her own - a sweet and worldly folk rock with echoes of Ben Harper, Bonnie Raitt, Peter Gabriel, and Patty Griffin. Her song Paper Airplanes was recently placed on a benefit compilation cd titled "For the Lady" (for Aung San Suu Kyi, the world''s only imprisoned nobel laureate) alongside tracks by Paul McCartney, Coldplay and Peter Gabriel.
Based in Brooklyn, U.S.A., she''s fronting her own band made up of her various touring pals. She captivates audiences with her bright, fearless smile and conspires with them to bring them into her world. Her lyrics are spare and ring true, and she sings each song as if discovering it for the first time...in that satisfying way that our favorite singer-songwriters always do.
