Susan Picking began her musical training in Southwestern Michigan. While growing up in the midwest she studied classical piano and cello. Susan didn’t start singing until she moved to California in 1996 when she began formal vocal training. Her Irish heritage drew her to traditional celtic music and Sean nos singing. She joined a Southern California Celtic band named Crannog. She continued study at Long Beach City College, studying songwriting. Susan’s biggest songwriting influences are 70’s folk rock...with the likes of Carole King,James Taylor, Van Morrison, Billy Joel, and Joni Mitchell. Based in Long Beach, California, Picking performs at coffee shops, bars, private parties, and conventions in the Greater LA area. She will perform solo with the piano, or with flexible ensembles. She still performs traditional Irish music and sang with the Santa Barbara Symphony Orchestra in March of 2007. The CD Down in Your Soul is Susan Leigh Picking’s first release. The soulful songs are inspired by lessons faced in the journey of life. Arranged with varied American influences.....folk, pop, jazz, bluegrass, and even acapella.
