Details:
Moody Mammoth''s inaugural CD, Tusk 1 is a sonic assault of well constructed electronic beats, soaring classical instrumentation and refined storylines / vocals. "Because", a feature track on Tusk 1, shares San Diego''s Sonic Boom Set list with Jeff Buckley, Coldplay, Bjork and Radiohead. Tusk 1 was borne out of a musical exploration embarked upon by longtime collaborators, Rolando Macrini and Stefano Zazzera. They began in February 2007 with a curiosity of what the interplay of classical instruments and programming might produce. Macrini and Zazzera started experimenting with sounds and realtime processing. Next, they layered their riffs with live drums, percussion, and later, alternative strings, in the form of the Strum Stick played by Cristofer Lovrin. Kevin McWha Steele entered the picture uplifting their work with his idosyncratic stories, lyrics and melodic vocals. By June it was clear that this undefined music project had sprouted wings and become a provocative album to be shared. With Macrini back in Italy, the collaboration with Zazzera became trans-Atlantic. As they sought to create a consistent electronica vibe for the work, McWha Steele readapted and harmonized his style with the evolved versions. He also introduced the studio to talented vocalists including the charismatic and gutsy Stephanie McKay duetting with Steele on "Even If", and the raw harmonic backing vocals of Sara Galassini on "Because". Additional contributions include clarinet by Richard Cohen for "Father", Cello and Strum Stick by Cristofer Lovrin for "St. Germain des Pres", strings by Serjio Reies and Jisoo Ok on "Mass Migration part 2". Vocal work by Zazzera, Swan Pouffer, Alexandra Damiani and Maha Chehlaoui completed the recording sessions.
