Details:
In 2007 I finished recording a rock album of which the title track is called Time Machines. I had decided that in essence songs are time machines and can transport the listener back to the memory and feel of the moment a person formed an attachment to the song. I was then confronted with the idea that if you looked under the hood of the time machine what sort of sounds would the time engine make. I ran with this idea and recorded several different pieces that related to the different songs on my rock album and inserted them accordingly. In the early 90''s I became involved with the Robot Group here in Austin Texas and was introduced to a custom made instrument built by the robotics engineer Brooks Coleman. His Springolin was made with giant metal springs and guitar pick ups on a metal frame and could be bowed or played with different objects. After having obtained his biggest and best version I was able to complete an idea I tossed around for several years and record a hypnotic ambient theme with an industrial flavor. My hope was by using mechanism movement sounds and embedding them in my recipe for dreamscape sound tracks it would help create a subconscious aural link to the modern day listener in their ongoing everyday sound collage. My intent as always is to use various instuments and recording techniques to take emphasis away from the obvious and help create a more condusive atmosphere for raw potentential.
