Helix pomatia, forest snail, foreground image
Helix pomatia appeared in 1758 and popularly it is called the grove snail, forest snail, garden snail, apple snail, green gardensnail, Weinberghschnecke (in german) or escargot de Bourgogne (in french when they are used in cooking) and it is spread in regions not under the influence of sea breeze. It is a species of large, edible, air-breathing land snail, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusk in the family Helicidae. It is a European species.
