Reichardt: Ouverture aus der Oper Pentesilao, Piano Solo
This work for harpsichord is taken from an opera Reichardt wrote in collaboration with J. G. Naumann following the death of Frederick the Great, Reichardts controlling employer. Pentesilaus is an Italianate drama in style and execution that told the tale of the titular heros death at Troy and his reward, the return to his wife for just three hours. It is a piece in which Reichardt was free at last to explore progressive ideas of style that had been denied to him previously and is suitable for all intermediate players.
