En Pastel, Trois Morceaux caractéristiques pour Piano par Sigismond Noskowski were published in 1890 and dedicated to the Polish surgeon, Doctor Franciszek Jawdyński. Ever since antiquity, philosophers musicians and poets have drawn an analogy between the media of light and sound and in these three pieces, from the elegiac rhapsody that opens the work through the brilliant waltz to the exquisite lullaby which concludes the set, Noskowski captured the kaleidoscopic character of the pieces with a masterful, almost painterly precision.
