He may have hoped to combine both activities like his maestro Rimsky-Korsakov did, and it just didnt work out as well for him, but sadly, this and all further circumstances of his life and death remain unknown to us. Thus do these last miniatures, Impromptu et Valse appear all the more precious to the performer and audience today, as they offer a glimpse of rare gems of Russian romanticism.
