Details:
Buick Audra is a singer and songwriter living between Brooklyn and Nashville. Her musical path has led her through everything from hard rock to country. Raised by songwriters in Miami, she was exposed to some of the greats at a very young age. Her mother made it a point to take her to live performances whenever possible, which included Blondie, Rickie Lee Jones, Christopher Cross, The Pretenders, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson and Bob Dylan. To this day, Buick''s musical influences remain as varied.
Her core band has always included very close members of her family and friends. Her brother Boey Bertold has played drums for all of her projects, and life-long friends Mario Quintero and Levi Fuller have also been involved in most ventures.
Buick cut her writing teeth in the band 33 Slade, a Boston-based trio (with Bertold and Fuller). The band was in existence from 1996 to 2003, and made two full-length albums. The Way To Win: A True Story was recorded at Inner Ear Studios in Washington D.C., by J. Robbins (Jawbox, Burning Airlines, Channels). It was released in 2002 on Trimming The Shield Records.
The band''s second release, Harmonies For One, was recorded at Camp Street Studios in Cambridge, MA. Matt Squire (Panic! at The Disco) acted as engineer and co-producer. Audra co-produced and wrote the album. The record was released in July, 2007, also on Trimming The Shield, after the band''s split.
Buick''s first solo effort, Rose Ink, was a stripped down, solitary recording. She returned to working with Matt Squire, but this time at his studio in Maryland. The eight song EP was recorded in two days, with each song having only one electric guitar track, with layers of lush vocal harmonies. It was released in the summer of 2006.
Buick started tracking her first full-length solo album, SINGER, in February, 2006 at Black Box Studios in San Diego, CA. The tracking was done in six trips to San Diego, along with sessions at various studios in New York and Boston. Her usual musical family was involved, as were several other musicians between the two coasts. The final product is a ten song record, with Country and Americana sensibilities.
Buick''s life in New York has been one of many blessings. Her "day job" as a clothing designer to artists such as Joss Stone and Alison Krauss has allowed her another creative outlet that she loves.
