Ian B. MacLeod - Song In This Ol' Guitar
"...whose songs & guitar playin' have brought the world great joy...."
In 1986, when Carl, Jerry Lee, Johnny Cash & Roy Orbison went to the old Sun Studios & recorded "Class of '55", Carl handed his fender guitar to a young guitar picker named Marty Stuart and said to him "This box has some songs in it & you're just the cat who can get them out." This then gave me the idea for another tune... "Song In This Ol' Guitar, enabling me to write biographically about Carl's love for his guitar & song writing & his battle, early in his career, with alcoholism & his rediscovery of life & Christianity. This is well documented in a wonderful biography "Go Cat Go" written by David McGee & Carl Perkins, published by Hyperion, New York in 1996 & is recommended reading.
