The beautiful melody of Romanza has been performed by numerous classical guitar players, the composer is unknown. Some music sources state that it may have been composed in the late 1800’s. Adelita, Lagrima and Marzurca En Sol were composed in Spain by notable guitarist and composer Francesco Tárrega (1852 - 1909). El Choclo composed by Angel Villoldo and Don Carlos composed by Julio S. Segreras are tangos that belong to what is referred by tango historians as the “Old Guard” or Guarda Vieja, which are tangos composed between 1800 and 1920. Cuando tu me Quieras composed by Angesilao Ferrazano and Julio Pollero, Tiempos Viejos composed by Francisco Canaro, La Copa del Olvido composed by Enrique Delfino, and Bandoneon Arrabalero composed by Juan Bautista Deambroggio, are all tangos belonging to the era of the “New Guard” or Guarda Nueva which are tangos composed between 1920 and 1955 respectively. Caramba and Gavota are both composed by Bartolome Calatayud (1882-1973). Calatayud was a prominent Majorcan guitarist and composer. While on a brief stay in Valencia, he received guitar lessons from Francesco Tárrega, whom he greatly admired. The famous composer, singer, and guitarist Antonio Carlos Jobim (1927-1994) is remembered as one of the originators of the bossa nova style which combines the melodious and rhythmic blend of Brazilian samba with the cool sounds of Jazz from the US in the early 1960’s. Jobim composed Solidao in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Ciudad de Cordoba is a beautiful waltz composed for two guitars by Argentineian folk composer Andres Chazarreta (1876-1960).
Vito Genna is a native of Long Island, NY and has been playing guitar since the age of twelve. Vito studied classical guitar under the direction of William Zito and flamenco guitar under the direction of Dennis Koster. Vito earned his degree in Music from Hofstra University and has performed at many locations and events in New York City and on Long Island.
