The Jr. Philharmonic is one of the oldest and most honored young people’s symphony orchestras in the United States. It was founded in Los Angeles on January 22, 1937 by its conductor, Dr. Ernst Katz and performs before capacity audiences in Southern California’s finest venues including the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Kodak Theatre and Shrine Auditorium.
The exceptional young musicians of the 115 member Jr. Phil, under the direction of concertmaster Gary S. Greene, created a beautifully melodic album. Mr. Greene is an accomplished violinist and conductor. He joined the Jr. Phil in 1963 and since 1967 has served as concertmaster. He has conducted the orchestra in most major classical works as well as popular pieces for legendary performers such as Debby Boone, Pat Boone, Dick Van Dyke, Robert Goulet, Florence Henderson, Carol Lawrence, Brock Peters, Stefanie Powers, Debbie Reynolds, Mickey Rooney, Sha Na Na and Michael York.
