A dreamy oscillation between post-rock pressure and Indie-rock dance appeal, Ventura California’s I Was a Lover, Delorean Was a Dealer is a soundscape experience that begs listeners to be lost or found. Having emerged from the rubble of the Ventura County music scene in 2006, keyboardist/programmer Chris Perez, drummer Justin Dempsey and vocalist/guitarist Chris Bykowski started with a focus on simplicity. As thunderous drums and minimal guitar reverberations began to layer dark, synthesizer drenched beats, drones, and whines, the threesome sound grew naturally producing a structurally straightforward, yet unavoidably complex sound. Live, this sound truly comes to life, expanding and compressing around the audience like the bellows of a transcendent accordion. Immersing the listener in a subjective audio experience that tastes and smells as much as it sounds, this synesthetic energy often finds a physical outlet through the on-stage devastation of full-size organs, box-fans and other common expendables. A powerful cycle of human passion, yielding synthetic power, yielding human passion, I was a Lover, Delorean was a Dealer celebrates the merging of aural experience with physical experience in a way that could only be surpassed if Kandinsky had a Korg.
