One Square Mile is proud to announce that their latest album "Fretwork" is in contention for two Juno award nominations. The Juno''s represent Canada''s highest achievement in music excellence. Fretwork is vying for Best Roots Album of the Year along with Recording Engineer of the Year. The winners will be announced in Calgary, Alberta in April.
One Square Mile is a fun; hard-driving; and entertaining bluegrass band which has been performing in the Ottawa Valley, Canada, for several years. “Fretwork” is the band’s latest CD.
One Square Mile made every effort with this outing to capture their on-stage presence and sound. The song choices for this album are a good reflection of their stage favorites and include two original compositions by Randy Robinson, the mandolin player – “Catchin’ Breakfast” is a fine fiddle tune and “Still, I Sometimes Do” is a rousing bluegrass lament of love long gone but still remembered. It has been said that Jesse McReyonld’s introduced triple picking to the mandolin. That may be true but Randy Robinson perfected it. His mandolin work on this CD will make you wonder why you have never heard of him before this.
One Square Mile has graced the stages of some of Canada’s finest concert venues. The band is particularly proud to have been selected to perform in the Grand Hall of the Canadian Museum of Civilization as part of Scouts Canada’s centennial anniversary.
All recording for this album was done live, off the floor in Baird Studio with minimal overdubs, retakes, and additional tracks. This time around, One Sqaure Mile was keen to give this album a live, “Wish you were here!” sound and feel, and early reports are “mission accomplished”. No doubt you will agree.
