"21st Century Hoedown" is the long-awaited second studio recording from the Morrison Brothers Band. The new album features dance music played on fiddle, guitar, bass and drums and includes two tracks with members of The Free State Ramblers. Four of the thirteen tracks showcase the band''s signature electric guitar while one features Jim Morrison''s steel guitar playing.
The Morrison Brothers Band (Jim Morrison - fiddle and
guitar; Owen Morrison - acoustic and electric guitars;
and Will Morrison - percussion) from Charlottesville,
VA started in 1998 as an outlet for Jim Morrison and
sons, Will and Owen, to blend their various musical
styles and tastes. Since then, the band has grown into
one of the most sought-after dance bands in the
Southeast. The three musicians are great fans of
traditional music and can present the subtleties of
numerous traditions from Western Ireland to West
Virginia. However, with the band''s characteristic drum
set and electric guitar, the Morrison Brothers often
incorporate bits of rock, blues and swing to create
one of the most exciting and driving sounds in the
contra world today.
The Morrison Brothers have been the featured band at
many contra dance weekends and events including Gypsy
Meltdown (Charlotte, NC), Springforth Ball (Richmond,
VA), What the Hey? (Atlanta), Bogue Banks Boogie
(Outer Banks, NC), Contradancers Delight
Holiday(Morgantown, WV) and the Dawn Dance Weekend
(Ann Arbor, MI.) Jim and Owen are also regular
musicians and instructors for dance weeks in various
camps around the country including Pinewoods and CCDS in Berea, KY.
In addition to playing for contras, the Morrison Brothers have played for many weddings and historical events. They are often called on to play early American music for conventions and events related to the colonial or civil war periods. The band has performed in this capacity at numerous universities, civil war battlefields, and at the War Memorial Auditorium (Greensboro, NC) in conjunction with David McCullough''s speech, "1776."
"Busking at Twilight," the Morrison Brothers Band''s debut recording, was released in 2002. It can only be purchased from the band--a genuine collector''s item!
