Details:
Jesús Rivas, also known as Lolo Cutumay, started his musical career playing a homemade Gitarron (acoustic bass guitar) in a norteño band with his friends in his home town of Aguilares, El Salvador in the early 70''s. Later he became involved in the Latin American New Song Movement as a member of the musical group “Cutumay Camones” de El Salvador (1982-1988) during the brutal civil war in his country. The group recorded four albums and toured internationally singing songs about the struggle for peace and social justice in El Salvador. Upon immigrating to the United States in the 90’s, Jesús co-founded a musical group in Los Angeles called Los Jornaleros del Norte, and recorded a CD in 1999 with original songs telling stories about the lives of immigrant day laborers.

With Ranchero de Corazón, Jesús has returned to his hometown and musical roots, recording twelve original songs with long-time friends and compatriots, including a member of his first band and Roberto Quezada of Yolocamba I Ta, a prominent Salvadoran New Song group. These lively and heartfelt songs tell stories of his love for his homeland and the realities of the working class immigrant experience in the US. Jesús performs in festivals, churches, marches, universities and union halls, engaging listeners with his songs of life, hope and the on-going struggle for peace and justice.
