Details:
Mike Farkas was raised in Vermont. At age 6 he picked up the violin. And quickly put it down. At age 9 he was allotted his elementary saxophone. He showed a bit of interest in it, learned to read music, practiced a little and played in the band. But it wasn’t until his sister brought home a guitar from college that Mike truly found his voice. Raised in an environment of classic rock (his first tape of his own was “Jimi Plays Monterey”), Mike spent his free time figuring out the guitar and the music of the late great rock and roll bands. Then jazz began to sound like something. And so did Frank Zappa. Mike attended Berklee College of Music and focused on composition and guitar while “learning” jazz and teaching himself classical guitar. He left to hone his brand of fusion; a mix of jazz, funk and rock. Then came Steve Earle, who opened Mike’s eyes to the beauty of a simple, well stated story and the sound of bluegrass. Then came down tempo lounge music, indie-rock, Hawaiian music…
Mike Farkas resides in Southern Vermont with his amazing wife Lilia, and his crazy dog Zula. He is currently promoting his latest project, RootDown, a self recorded release, with a band of Vermont’s tastiest musicians. Mike plays the guitar, resonator, banjo, ukulele, flute and what ever else you’d like to lend him. He is 31 years old.
