Details:
When You Go features Lucien in his debut recording as vocalist and multi-instrumentalist. All material in this project was written, performed and recorded by the artist. Juggling multiple instrument duties for this recording, Lucien found himself playing guitar (electric and acoustic), lap steel, pedal steel, mandolin, harmonica, keyboards, and bass. The album opens with the a cappella track “Tribute to Brian Wilson”, which features lush four-part vocal harmonies woven together to create a hauntingly beautiful sonic tapestry. In the James Taylor inspired track “Reservation with the Moon” Lucien extends to the listener an open invitation to join him in the musical journey through the remaining tracks of the album. Political and social themes take center stage in “State of Misery” and “Class”. Lyrics include the lines, “In Washington the air is clouded by political affairs, big money lobbying to buy horses in the race”, and “Mirrored room opinions from your penthouse view, take a look around on the ground floor”. In his journey as an artist, Lucien continually strives for a perfect marriage between lyric and sonic setting. On the lighter side of affairs, the tongue-in-cheek pop-waltz “Mary-go-Round” speaks of a love that spins in your head while stealing your heart. The title track “When You Go” centers around the idea that nothing is permanent, “Save it now and the numbers may grow, but you can’t take it with you when you go”. Lucien hopes you will take this CD with you and enjoy the musical journey.
