Details:
Charlie O’ Brien’s music is a heartfelt look at the world through the Irish folk/trad. Idiom that touches on some unexpected ground on its way. He makes use of both English and Gaelic speaking schools of thought with a touch of the Spanish world, among others, for good measure. Hailing from Killarney in the County of Kerry he has spent 3 of the last 7 years in Spain which has lightly coloured his musical style. This influence is most obviously felt in Baroque tinged Spanish piece Calle de Las Ursulas on Songs from an Outpost. He has worked with many musicians from varied backrounds from young accordian player Steven Carroll of Sliabh Luachra to fiddle player Colin Farrell of Grada and Israeli piano accordian player Emmanuel Mann. His debut album is an amalgam of all these varied influnces.
Having apprenticed himself to the trade of Irish trad. He hopes to come from this deep well of strength with something of his own devising. He is currently working on a new album using his native Killarney as a basis, drawing again from both Gaelic and English stores of thought. The poem Where Splendor Falls set to music (from the English poet Tennyson’s the Princess) is the title track to this newest endeavor, which will further push out the boundaries of his resolute but respectfully tentative muse!
