STORY BEHIND THE CD:
CHANGE the story While I owe a debt of gratitude to everyone who took part in the making of this cd project, I don''t think it would exist today as it does, if not for a fateful meeting in early 2003. You see, this project began in 1999, with my old friends Rayne, Christian, and drummer Jeff Gadd, as an attempt to record some old songs we had and maybe put out a nostalgia cd for our personal pleasure. After all, Rayne and I had performed together for years
as the duo Fyre and Rayne. Christian and Rayne had been in a band together, and together with Jeff Gadd, they had been working on a new band idea together, when I got together with them to rehearse a few tunes and go in the studio.
We laid trax for 6 songs that first session and I even did a full mix on two of the songs in an attempt to release a cd single in ''99-''00. After that, it would be over 2 years before I went back in the studio to work on these songs, much less record new ones! I''d fallen into a "burnout" phase and the desire just wasn''t there. Besides, our lives
had taken us all in different directions, and we just never seemed to be able to get together. So, I was doing my usual share of cover gigs to make ends meet, as well as the occasional part time job to supplement that. One of those jobs was as a pizza delivery guy. If it weren''t for this delivery job, I would never have met Bobby Tocco. And to understand what a miracle of fate this was, you have to know that each delivery was based on total random chance. And the fact that Bobby was even home was a miracle, since he was always on the road behind the wheel of an 18 wheeler.
So, I take this random delivery to a guy I''d never met, who just happened to be home on the night I was working delivery, and I bring the pizza to his door, knock, and meet Bobby for the first time. The really strange part is that I got a vibe from this total stranger and asked "are you a musician?" He just smiled and said "yeah, why do you ask?" I told him I was a songwriter and interested in getting a project going. He seemed excited by the prospect and we got together shortly thereafter to work on the song "change." It was fun, but the sound was empty, so Bobby called his old friend Michael McMillan, whom I''d never met, but has since become a valuable part of this project as well as a good personal friend. Together with Christian, we went in the studio again in early May of ''03 and recorded several new songs. Bobby seems to know lots of people and even introduced me to drummer Kelsey Wilson to do tracks for two songs. Scott Anderson, a recent acquaintance as well, has added much to this music!. Brian Ashley Jones and MartaY are both talented players that I have done duo gigs with now and then. Mad Dog Watson is a pilot that works with my wife at AirTran, famous for his preflight harmonica playing! My good friends, the Baumstarks as well as my new friend Mark Chekos would sometimes visit my studio sessions, so I had to put them to work, clapping their hands or singing gang vocals! And, working with Tony and Ron over at Dogwood Recording has been a lot of fun as well. Home away from home! Rayne, Christian, and I had a long history together, jamming and doing gigs, but it wasn''t until I met Bobby Tocco, that fateful day, delivering a pizza to his door, that gave me the impetus I needed to finish this project! Of course, the cd is a sum of all it''s parts, with all of the talented people performing on it, and the winding trail that fate has led us down together. It has finally come to life, and it''s birth is a testament and tribute to all who took part in it''s conception. It is a miracle, and I believe it must have a will of it''s own, to have come about in such a way. I hope you enjoy this music, as much as we enjoyed the journey in making it! I give thanks to the forces which brought us all together. If you are listening to the cd and reading this, perhaps fate has even led you here, to learn something or to meet someone. Follow the path, and you can''t go wrong. Thanks for sharing this journey with us! Yours in music...David Lee Williams
