COUNTRY: Country Folk, ROCK: Americana

Details:
Crosley Field is a loose collective of musicians fiddling about with multiple folk musics: it''s Alt-bluegrass, Alt-folk, Alt-country, Alt-mariachi. "Um, wow, you almost never hear banjo with a Hammond organ" is how one critic responded upon hearing Crosley Field. "If Lou Reed kidnapped Union Station and made them record a mariachi "Nebraska" on mescaline" is how another described a live show. "The cows came home last night" is like how they used to make country songs, but they dont anymore. With vocalists Elizabeth Menke and Churchill Brauninger trading heart-broken barbs as only those in love can, they offer up a classic country lament with a Mazzy Star type of distorted psych folk that rings sad and true. One could easily believe that it was a huge hit for Kenny & Dolly in an alternate universe, but it wasnt. From the step-by-step recounting of a man under arrest for killing his lover in "(I''ve made a) Bloody Mess" to the recollection of a murdered prostitute''s last day on this motal coil (A Brief Life Flashes Before Her Eyes), ''216 Stitches'' offers Bukowski-esque short stories of love and loss and Brautigan-esque novellas of life and humor. This is the first of a trilogy of CDs to be released in short order by Crosley Field.
