About Richi
Since he first picked up the sticks at age 11, Richi James Debonis (aka Richi Van Zeppelin) has been a true rhythmic force playing and recording in many genres alongside among a roster of greats that includes Frank Morgan, Chris Calloway, Jaco Pastorius, Ace Frehley, Bill Watrous, Ron Carter, and Chris Potter. Despite such good company, his notable musicianship is still relatively undiscovered, perhaps in part because of his recent two year sabbatical from the nyc gigging scene in order to focus intensely on his instrumental skills and search for a deeper, more pure, inspired musical statement as an artist. As a talented percussionist, composer and arranger, he has in the past led many creative endeavors, but none are more compelling and original than his current project, “The Nowtet Plays Zep”. “I don’t believe it, but it’s beautiful!”, says Gene Paul, renowned engineer and son of guitar legend Les Paul. Richi’s moving arrangements of the timeless compositions of page and plant are a must listen for Zep fans and jazz aficionados alike. Says Richi, “This record was only possible for me because jazz and Led Zeppelin are my two favorites in the universe and I’ve studied them and *lived* them all my life. This recording project was and is my life. It was a feeling of divine intervention, like archangel Gabriel was there with me and I’ve never been so turned on in all my life!” Acclaimed drumming legend Victor Lewis says it could be “the ultimate crossover record of all time”. We encourage you to check it out.
