''4 a reason''
Katalys Crew has returned with their sophomore album titled 4 A Reason.
Hailed as Jamaica''s premier roots/inspirational/gospel band, the group stands at four members, down from its original nine.
This time around, we''re given a more in-depth look at the men and their ministry. Gone are the ''poppy'' high-tempo beats that listeners are accustomed to.
Rather, the 17-track disc gives a different, more mature, even edgier approach to their reggae sound.
Authentic reggae
One gets the feeling of authentic reggae throughout the entire album from the never ending percussion and harmonies which infest the listener''s ears, reminiscent of a classic concert with Bob Marley and the Wailers.
Starting with its title track, the album grabs the listener with its mid-tempo beats by reminding us ''everything in life is for a reason''.
The soothing sound of smooth reggae continues with Wonderful World, a collaboration which features Richie Stephens.
With this track, we''re taken on a journey which shows that as people, ''if we could put our racial differences behind, what a wonderful world it could be''.
As the album continues, one begins to understand why a group of talented musicians would use reggae as a medium for ministry, and if you aren''t a ''fan'' of roots or reggae gospel, they make it very clear that they don''t ''necessarily travel a path already trod ... but rather go where there is no path and leave a trail''.
Bold in their delivery, the group makes it known in tracks such as Trod the Earth, Action, Chanting, and I am persuaded that nothing will stop them from continuing their ministry.
Boldness, however, segues to the backseat in Woman of Virtue and Sending my love Mama where their walls break down, revealing a more intimate side of the group.
Unfortunately, this doesn''t last long, as the Buju Banton Drivah inspired Father, sends a heartfelt plea about the hardships of living.
The album continues with its strong motif and culminates with the listener feeling happy that they took the journey.
Ultimately, 4 A Reason, dedicated to people who feel trapped by crime, poverty, religion, illness and relationships, gives the feeling that anything is possible, as long as you believe.
