COUNTRY: Honky Tonk, COUNTRY: Western Swing
Details:
Album: Red Lips and Honky Tonks
Artist: Jerry Webb
Talented Texas singer-songwriter, Jerry Webb has a brand new CD and it is loaded with some really super Western Swing and Texas dance hall music. This one consists of 12 tunes of what Texas music is all about, a great voice and backing by a band consisting of some of the top names in Western Swing music.
Besides featuring Jerry on vocals and Gary Carpenter and his Rains steel guitar and Dobro you also hear the album producer, Carl Vaughan playing acoustic guitar. In the heart of the rhythm section is heard Wayne Bennett playing drums. Dale Morris, Jr. is heard playing some unbelievable fiddle, Mark Abbott plays upright bass and Chip Bricker is the pianist. There is some awesome Tommy Nash guitar and Willie Glover Telecaster guitar. Jeanne Vaughan does the background vocals and Jerry''s son, Michael Webb is heard doing vocal on the only tune in the album that Jerry did not write, one written by Michael''s granddad, Water on a Wine Glass. On What I''d Love Steve Soloman plays fiddle, Derrick Spiegner does drums, Ron Jones, bass guitar and former Asleep at the Wheel pianist Chris Booher does the ivories.
The album opens with the Texas dance hall feel of Red Lips and then goes on to a fantastic Western Swing cut that can really score Here in Old Fort Worth. Other Texas dance hall shuffle sounds heard are When You Know How to Fall, Turn to the Wine and Wrong From the Ring. The album title tune Red Lips and Honky Tonks is another one with big hit potential while I Love a Texas Honky Tonk is another great tune. Another very interesting item is Keep Your Back to the Wind while two other really nice items are Do the Right Thing and The One I Don''t Have.

Forteen of the finest country and western swing musicians Texas has to offer accompanies Jerry Webb to make Red lips and Honky Tonks the best I’ve heard in a while. I first met Jerry a couple of years ago and my first impression is the same then as it is today. Webb is not only awesome on stage, his talent as a songwriter is amazing as well. Wayne Bennett and Derrick Spiegner on drums, Gary Carpenter on steel, Tommy Nash, Carl Vaughan and Willie Glover, guitars, Mark Abbott on upright bass and Ron Jones, bass guitar. Chris Booher and Chip Bricker on piano. Fiddles by Dale Morris, Jr and Steve Soloman. Vocals and background vocals by Jerry Webb, Jeanne Vaughan and Michael Webb. Joe Bielinski from Country Legends Radio 92.1FM said it best, “Jerry understands the concept of real
country music”. I agree with Swingin’ West’s Mike Gross from WVOF-FM in Fairfield, Connecticut, “ Red Lips and Honky Tonks appears to be headed Right to my playlists”. I believe this album will get tremendous radio airplay Not only in Texas but around the globe.
