Description:
Connie''s debut recording has an excellent mix of seven songs by artists who are well known and unknown beyond West Virginia. Three original pieces round out the album. Connie''s vocals are front and center and well supported by Brad Gum''s excellent guitar work. The late Cadillac Daddy pumps things up on Old Cat Blues with his soulful blues harp.
Editorial Reviews:
"Townsend''s voice is a refreshing change of pace from most contemporary female singers. She sings in the reserved, stately style of a young Maybelle Carter, conveying emotion and passion with dignity and restraint rather than trying to force it. The music, [on These Hills] in turn has a pleasing rough-around-the edges, old-timey feel."
