Americana/Country Rock

12 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Country-Rock, COUNTRY: Country Rock

Details:
Maria Almlöv was born and raised in a small village, in the countryside, called Tierp, an hour and a half''s drive north of Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. She was brought up as the third of five siblings. With a father being a music teacher, cantor and a choir leader the music was always a natural part of Maria''s life. Her and her siblings where, from an early age, often performing together with their father in their neighbourhood.

During the teenage years she developed a musicality of her own and she could often be seen singing solo at different choir performances. After completing Upper Secondary School she left her small village for Dallas, Texas where she was working as an Au Pair for a year. She discovered the Country Music genre, which has become the music closest to her heart ever since. During the year in the USA the longing to work with music grew stronger. When she came back to Sweden she started an education at Kungliga Musikhögskolan ("The Royal College of Music") to become a music teacher.

Alongside her studies she started to freelance as a back up singer and a rythm guitar player. She also started to write her own music and it was at this time she put together her first band. Maria''s music has been strongly influenced by country rock artists like Gram Parsons, Emmylou Harris and Johnny Cash. But, you will also hear the influence from bands like Little Feat and The Band. Some of her songs lean more towards rock, and quite often they have been moving towards the pop music genre, although you can always hear the country music influences.

In 1998 Maria had two songs included in the soundtrack for a Swedish short film by Johan Löfstedt, this film was shown at SVT, (The Swedish Television Network). Furthermore she made several demo recordings and played live with her band. In 1999 Maria was the warm up act for the American country star Dale Watson, when he played in Stockholm.

Time passed on and even though Maria was busy backing up other artists she kept on writing her own songs. And finally, in December 2003, she decided that it was about time for her to record her own album, on her own record label called Elma Records. She gathered her band with the most amazing musicians, and went in to the studio. Maria co-produced the album together with Staffan Johansson. He is the guitarist you also can hear in Peter Murphy''s Carver Combo and with Ane Brun. Also playing on the album is the well known bass-player Surjo Benigh. He has worked with Buddy Miller and Brady Blade, to mention a few. Christian Ekwall plays the drums

It took Maria a year to finish up the recordings and as the release came closer she decided that her debut album was going to be called "About Time". Partly ''cause she felt that it really was about time for her songs to be properly recorded. And partly ''cause when she was going through the lyrics she found out that they, in one way or another, were written about time. The feeling of lost time, time not being spend in the right way and how the time we have on this earth always seems to be to short. But also that it is never to late to make a change and what ever you do with your time, make sure that it in every way includes love.

"Maria Almlöv sings with a lively essence and About time is a strong record that deserves more attention" Nerikes Allehanda

"Maria Almlöv shows that a good voice and good songs gives a strong result, no matter if you''re signed to a major record label or not. About time is a proof of that" https://www.tradebit.com
