Dedication
On the morning of April 17, 2007, the news media reported one person had been killed at Virginia Tech. Hours later, they would tell us about the full scope of the rampage. In time we would learn the tragedy was meaningless, the madness of a deeply disturb loner.
Through this intense darkness came the story of Dr. Liviu Librescu, a 76- year old Holocaust survivor. That morning, he gave his life so that his students could survive. His selflessness illuminated the gray murkiness of otherwise chaos and depravity.
In a world of such short attention spans, we all tend to forget far too quickly. So my goal was to try to immortalize his inspiration in You Showed Us the Way. The second song on this CD is one that I wrote a long time ago. Faith in the Spirit reaffirms that even through our desperate hours, our devotion can lead us forward. Despite intense evil, there is hope. Together these two songs tell the story of great tests, but also of the reasons why we do not fall into the abyss. Brilliant light and indomitable faith are manifested in such people as Dr. Librescu and truly show us the way.
I would like to thank The Lonesome Road Band for their terrific vocals and harmonies. Special thanks to Terry Wetton and Larry Keith for their invaluable contributions to melodies and arrangements. And finally, I would like to thank those at Virginia Tech who have enabled us to dedicate this work to all of the victims, their families, and to the entire Virginia Tech community. We are also proud to donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of this CD to the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund.
All of you remain in our prayers.
