MP3 Band of Annuals - Let Me Live
That devastating combo of heartbreaking alt-country earnestness and perfect pop-hook craftsmanship is elusive, which makes the victory all the sweeter when a band in your own back yard nails it. Band Of Annuals are that band right now. (BF) City Weekly

Band of Annuals is a hardworking 6-piece band from Salt Lake City, Utah. They formed almost three years ago, and quickly gained a reputation as one of the Intermountain West''s best country folk outfits. Shortly after forming, Band of Annuals self released the album REPONDEZ, and then toured the pacific coast, and played shows in places as far east as Kansas. Their follow up disk, Live Warehouse EP, was called the best alt-country music to ever come out of Salt Lake City by local music publication SLUG Magazine. Their latest album, Let Me Live, was released in May of 2007. Let Me Live builds on many of the same themes as their earlier work, and even showcases studio versions of several tracks from last year''s live record. The twelve songs melt seamlessly together, and demonstrate why many consider Band of Annuals major players in Utah''s burgeoning country noir music scene. Band of Annuals has shared the stage with Magnolia Electric Co., Neko Case, Damian Jurado and many others. Their sound has been compared to bands like these, and this is at least somewhat accurate. They must be heard to be believed. Their music is flawlessly beautiful and substantially better than most of what has thus far emerged from outlaw, religious Utah’s musical repertoire. Bill Frost of Salt Lake''s City Weekly described their music as a devastating combo of heartbreaking alt-country earnestness and perfect pop-hook craftsmanship. Let Me Live was record earlier this year with the help of Scott Wiley, who assisted on the Elliot Smith album Basement on a Hill. He has also worked with Ryan Adams, Tracy Chapman and others. There are current plans to once again tour California and the Pacific Northwest, and to play several shows in Utah and surrounding states. Catch their performance when they play your city; it will once again make you happy to listen to country music.
