Terry Disley started playing piano at age 9, studying classical music for 12 years, as well as jazz piano, formal composition, harmony and arranging at the Salterton School of Music in London. In 1982 he received the award for Best Jazz Musician of the Year from the Greater London Arts Association with his group Macondo.

Currently Terry performs as featured special guest with Acoustic Alchemy on their American tours. In the past he wrote music for Alchemy’s Grammy Award nominated “Back on the Case” album and toured and recorded with them for 7 years. He wrote “The Beautiful Game” for Alchemy – a huge hit for them which resulted in a top twenty placement in the “Best Contemporary Jazz Album of 2000” for Billboard Magazine that year, as well as tracks Tete-a-Tete, Love at a Distance, and 2 co-writes with Greg Carmichael and Nick Webb - Fire of the Heart and Clear Air for Miles.

He was the featured soloist with London’s Metropolitan Orchestra for the soundtrack of the movie “Beautiful Girls” starring Matt Dilon and Uma Thurman, in which Timothy Hutton played the part of a pianist for whom Terry created the music. He also was featured on soundtracks for “The Ref”, “Showgirls” and “Crime Time” along with Marianne Faithful. A highly acclaimed jazz pianist – he has appeared many times at London’s famous Ronnie Scott’s club alongside jazz greats such as McCoy Tyner, Cedar Walton and Monty Alexander. He also opened for Miles Davis at the Vienna Jazz Festival with the UK jazz group Working Week.

Working as Musical Director for pop super star Dave Stewart (Eurythmics), he arranged music for a diverse range of combinations of musicians and played keyboards on nearly all of Dave’s sessions for a whole range of projects throughout 1992-97 – starting with Greetings from the Gutter with Bootsie Colins and Bernie Worrel, and subsequently recording more than 25 albums and 4 major motion picture soundtracks.

Terry was much in demand as a studio musician and was commissioned to work on projects with Sir Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Mick Jagger, Brian Wilson, Van Morrison, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Bryan Ferry, Tom Jones and Bon Jovi among many others.

Since 1997 he has lived in San Francisco recording and performing. In September 2003 he co-wrote music for the San Francisco Oracle World Convention with Christopher Hedge, and performed the piece as an improvisation for solo piano for 15,000 people at the Moscone Center.

His own group the TERRY DISLEY EXPERIENCE has been carving a niche in the jazz and smooth jazz scenes since it’s inception. The debut CD “EXPERIENCE” was released in 2003 and received extensive national airplay in high rotation. The TERRY DISLEY EXPERIENCE played at both the Lake Tahoe and Catalina Island Jazz Trax Festivals in 2004 to great acclaim as well as the first ever Sonoma Jazz Festival, and are continuing to build from strength to strength wherever they perform live. The groups CD ‘Across the Pond is the brand new release.
