Formed at the University of Texas in 2002, Chloë''s Honey is one of the most exciting bands to call Austin, Texas, home. The band produces a sound with the power and lushness of the Smashing Pumpkins and Big Wreck, and the raw earnestness of Pearl Jam and U2; all the while, showcasing the musical versatility of bands like Incubus and Radiohead.
Guitarist Jim Shields mixes his technical virtuosity and love for sonic bombast to create an enormous and lush landscape of sound for the band. The rhythm section, comprised of drummer Danny Atkinson and newly acquired bassist J.R. Taylor, anchor the sound with tight grooves, amazing fills, and an unbridled passion for the music. All the while, singer Joel De La Garza''s soulful voice and moving lyrics paint every song with a personal and earnest emotion that seems to broaden the horizon of what the band stands for.
In 2003, after a year of playing shows throughout Texas to a growing fan base, Chloë''s Honey released their debut album, frequency front, on their own independent record label, Sleep-in Dreams Records. Produced by J.R. Taylor (Roscoe Beck, Gideon''s Press, element-9, Overlord), all 11 tracks on the album capture the enormous live sound of the band, yet each song is layered with enough emotion and color to reveal something different with each listen.
From ebb and flow anthems "wave" and "silvershell," to crowd-jumping favorites "stargirl" and "human," the band''s energy and sound is catchy, yet laced with heart felt meaning and reason. Songs like the album opening "treewish" and its finale "bella" prove that the delivery of the band''s live show is extremely powerful and should not be missed. The first single off of frequency front, "all in", best blends the emotional intensity and attention to songwriting that the band represents, melding power and feeling in a way often unheard of in a first effort.
"all in" has already received local and regional radio airplay to a promising response, landing the band an on air performance on KLBJ-FM 93.7''s "The Big Mike and Powermouth Patty" rush hour show and a spot on the Austin-area rock station''s "Main Stage" for the Annual Pecan Street Spring Festival. A video for "all in," shot by Blue Shoes Productions in 2003, has also been in heavy rotation on the Austin Music Network, the nation''s only local market music video network, since the album''s release.
2004 has already proven pivotal for Chloë''s Honey, as they have shared bills with some of the best bands in the region including Jibe, former Sony recording artists Vallejo, and former MCA recording artists Dada.
