About VOLAR
Plan C follows up their award winning debut-album, with their sophomore album, “Volar”, a vibrant tapestry of World-Latin-Fusion that explores Latin American, Asian, African and North American rhythms and lyrics and blends them all into a spiritual journey across the collective human experience.
Lead single, ‘Volar’ invites listeners to let the music transport them to a place of hope and compassion – carried by a deep cumbia/reggeton. This track features a traditional Colombian Gaita played by Felipe Muños from Grupo Chumbimba (https://www.tradebit.com and rhymes from Toronto based Latin hip-hop artist, Flakko (https://www.tradebit.com
The music then moves to ‘El Vaquero’, a sly cumbia/salsa-rock that calls out that cowboy from the wild-west. The one who thinks he can gallop across any border to oppress the weak for his own personal gains. ‘El Vaquero’ was written by Plan C percussionist Diego las Heras and incorporates a traditional Colombian Tiple played by Julio Andres Rodriguez.
‘Estoy Contigo’, blending afro-beat with Peruvian, Colombian and Cuban rhythms, is a very personal message sung for Juan Valencia’s wife, Sandy, commemorating her recently deceased father. It speaks to the need to carry on in the face of life’s losses and hardships, and the importance of having someone there to help you through bad times.
‘La Fiesta’ moves listeners to the dance floor to give it all they got with a funky blend of Merengue and Drum and Bass. Featuring KC Roberts on vocals, (https://www.tradebit.com
The journey then turns toward the rhythms of the Middle East to honour the innocent lives lost, not only in Iraq, but in all illegal wars. ‘Iraq’ features the soprano sax of Oliver Miguel (https://www.tradebit.com) and Fender Rhodes by Mark Pellizzer.
‘Universo’ is a deep electro-jazz vibe that features Spanish MC direct from Barcelona, Celia Palli, who drops rhymes in her native Catalan.
Plan C shows their joyous side with ‘No Dejo De Tener’, which rocks out Colombian Vallenato and encourages us to focus on the positive side of life. Featuring accordion player Juan Diego ‘Jay D’ De Salas (https://www.tradebit.com
The track ‘Lies’ calls for an end to all the political lies that have lead us to war and the world to suffering. This ambitious Reggae-Tango was co-written by ex-member Tim-Bones and features the accordion of Christopher Molder.
The ups and downs of love are explored in ‘Como un Sueño’, a smooth cumbia sung by Plan C vocalist Janelle Monique as a love letter to her former romance;
And finally ‘Maria’, an electronic Colombian Puya dedicated to that mysterious Lady Maria, that makes you feel unexplainable sensations. Co-written by Award-winning Folklorist and Gaita player, Juan Carlos Medrano, from the Colombian fusion-group Wayove.
With the album ‘Volar’, Plan C has taken yet another step towards re-shaping people’s idea of what Latin music should be by
connecting the dots between world grooves and closing the gap between the planet’s collective struggles.
