About the Performers:

David Wright has gained international recognition as a performer of both classical and jazz saxophone giving concerts and master classes throughout the United States, Central America, South America, Europe, and Asia. As a classical saxophonist, David has performed with some of the best regional orchestras in the United States and has given recitals and master classes at the China International Clarinet/Saxophone Festival in Changchun, China, the National Conservatory in Lima, Peru, the Victoriano Lopez School of Music in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, the World Saxophone Congress XIII, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the World Saxophone Congress XIV, in Ljubljana, Slovenia, along with many other major colleges and universities around the world. As a commercial artist, David has performed with acts such as The Temptations, The Four Tops, Frankie Vallie and the Four Seasons, Mary Wilson, The O’Jays, The Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, Regis Philbin, Dave Samuels, Byron Stripling, Bobby Senabria, Jiggs Wiggham, Steve Houghton, and Ray Anderson. As a soloist, teacher, and a member of the Traverser Saxophone Quartet, David has commissioned and performed many new works for solo saxophone, quartet, large ensemble, and mixed ensembles. He is a co-founder of the Traverser Saxophone Symposium and the Appalachian Saxophone Orchestra. David Wright is an endorsing Artist/Clinician for C.G. Conn-Selmer, Inc., and was faculty at West Virginia Wesleyan College from 2000-2006. David will join the faculty at West Virginia University in Morgantown in August, 2006, as Professor of Saxophone. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education from the State University of New York, College at Fredonia, and the degrees of Master of Music Education and Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Steven Harlos made his solo debut at Lincoln Center in 1986, performing the Gershwin Concerto in F. Known for his sensitivity as a collaborative artist, he has performed with many artists of international stature, including Timofei Dokshutzer, Charles Treger, Erick Friedman, and Gervase de Peyer. In the popular music field, he has worked with such diverse artists as Marvin Gaye, Dionne Warwick, Chaka Khan, Maureen McGovern and Tommy Tune. As a jazz pianist, he assisted Dick Hyman in the first performances of his ballet “Piano Man” with the Cleveland Ballet, and subsequently performed the work with the Cleveland Ballet on numerous occasions. He also performed Mr. Hyman’s ballet “The Bum’s Rush”, with the American Ballet Theater at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Recent successes in the field of composition include the publication of his “Sonata Rubata” for flute and piano by Southern Music Company, and the world premiere of his most recent composition “Benniana”, a jazz sonatina for clarinet and piano, at the Changchun International Saxophone and Clarinet Festival. An active musician in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, he currently serves as Staff Keyboardist for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and as Coordinator of Piano and Collaborative Piano at the University of North Texas in Denton.
