Paula McCulla has been a disc jockey with her own radio show, soloist for an international television program, and an award winning recording artist. She wrote and recorded the Song of the Year, and was honored as New Artist and Female Artist of the Year by the CCMA.
Paula''s story begins in a row house on North 10th Street in Reading, PA. Born on November 11th, Veterans Day, she was the youngest of 5 children where the hand-me- downs were of a musical fashion. Paula was given piano lessons by her sister Pam, passed down a trumpet by her brother Dennis, and she inherited her father''s talent for harmony singing. Music has always been Paula''s main passion. Her teen years were spent playing trumpet in the school orchestra, singing in a gospel trio with her father and cousin, and playing the piano. "I remember learning to play all the songs from Carole King''s Tapestry album," says Paula. The singer-songwriters of the 70''s were her biggest influence; artists like Jim Croce, James Taylor, Billy Joel, and Paul Simon, just to name a few. Soon Paula began writing her own songs. Her first record, at the age of 19, contained two original compositions and since that time she has continued to write and record her own material.
Paula''s latest CD, "Girl Inside the Woman", is a musical memoir that contains songs about her childhood up to the present. It reflects the uniqueness and diversity of her songwriting. Paula has this to say about it, " I love quilts. They are made from the fabric of the past, skillfully arranged into a pattern to create a beautiful work of art, meant to be enjoyed in the present and then passed down. My Grandmother quilted, I write songs. I can''t sew like she did, but I can weave together pieces of my life into a song. The gift of a song...that''s something I can leave for my grandchildren."
