Details:
"The Minnesota Portraits and other music by Carl Schroeder" features instrumental music for concert band, orchestra, chamber ensembles and solo piano by emerging Minnesota composer Carl Schroeder (b. 1982).
Schroeder''s music, which has been described as "searingly beautiful" and "Copland-esque," often connects with his other interests, including politics and American history, while also drawing inspiration from everyday surroundings.
The disc includes world premiere recordings of the concert band suite "The Minnesota Portraits," a three-movement work based on the composer''s impressions of various Minnesota landmarks, the orchestral elegy "Christine''s Lullaby," written in honor of Christine Lee Hanson, the youngest victim of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, three solo piano works performed by the composer, the jazz quartet "Core Event" and several other works.
Over 400 Minnesota musicians perform on the CD, including ensembles such as the Minnesota Symphonic Winds, the St. Olaf Band, the St. Olaf Orchestra, the Minnesota Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Calhoun-Isles Community Band.
