Alain Nkossi Konda is a leading member of the "new" generation of African Afro-pop Artists who have been raised abroad, understand the dynamics of their adoptive cultures, and have not lost any trace of their roots or proud heritage. Coming from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Nkossi Konda´s new album Africa-pella contains 12 songs, including the "World" category grand prize winning song "Unconditional Love" from the International 2002 John Lennon Songwriting Contest.
Artist/Producer Alain Nkossi Konda, a.k.a. Nkossi Konda, originally from the DR of Congo, lived in NYC for 29 years and is currently a resident of Immenstadt, Germany (Allgäu). He infuses a perfect marriage between African and Western cultures to create what he calls "Tri-cultural" Pop which is a fusion of Congolese Soukous, funk, and reggae with pop hooks. He is fluent in the three main languages in which he sings: Lingala (Central African language), English, & French.
Traveling the world as the son of a diplomat, Nkossi which means "The Lion" in the language of Kikongo, reflects his talent as a singer-songwriter in every track of Africa-pella. Some of the featured musicians on this wonderfully produced record include guitarist Vernon Reid (Living Colour), bassist Doug Wimbish (Living Colour), drummer Will Calhoun (Living Colour), Manu Katche (Peter Gabriel, Sting), and the unmistakable smooth style of contemporary Jazz guitar virtuoso Jim Savitt who co-wrote the beautiful ballad "Flame & The Wind" about the African people''s lingering misfortunes. Nkossi was the first artist signed by legendary Calypso King Harry Belafonte for his then new label Niger Records/ Palm Pictures in partnership with Island records founder Chris Blackwell.
Footage was shot in Andalucia (SPAIN),Vienna (Austria) & Reutlingen (Germany) for one of the album''s first Video singles for "Unconditional love". The clips are being edited in the three languages mentioned above. "Africa-pella" is a 12 song album which contains 4 tracks in English and the remaining 8 tracks Nkossi performs in his native tongues of Lingala and French.
2003 was an interesting year for Nkossi who was hired as a guitarist/arranger by UNICADE Music to work with LOU BEGA... He also co-wrote 2 tracks on the recently released album by the German due JASMON a.k.a LEMONGRASS.
