Carl Lott''s, percussionist, music skills are often compared to the legendary jazz drummer Max Roach. A native of Houston, Texas, Lott began his journey at an early age playing professionally in and around the city of Houston. His effortless drive behind the drum set has kept him maintaining the tempo for over 40 years in the music industry. Lott has and still does work with greats in the music industry. His numerous credits include work with Hank Crawford, Nancy Wilson, Gerald Wilson''s Big Band, Della Reese, Sonny Stitt, Lou Rawls, Pharaoh Sanders, and numerous recording.
This is the first in the series of four live jazz recordings made at Lott''s Jazz Emporium. An early eighties jazz club and café located in the Third Ward section of Houston, Texas, owned by noted jazz percussionist Carl B. Lott and his wife Lillie. The club opened in 1982 and quickly became a spot for Be Bop. Lott''s Jazz Emporium was frequented on a regular basis by vocal and instrumental jazz artists living in the Houston area and those visiting the city including jazz legends Arnett Cobb, Pharaoh Sanders, Don Wilkerson, G.T. Hogan, drummer, Charles Patterson trumpeter , Conrad O. Johnson alto sax, vocalist Mildred Jones, Hank Crawford alto sax, Woody Shaw trumpeter, organist Leon Spencer Jr.
