Details:
Basement Apartment began as the solo project of former Pilot Light guitarist Vince Caro. Conceived in 2001, BA originally started out as a school assignment incorporating sound with visuals. Playing most of the instruments with guitar help from Kristina Kerr (ex-Pilot Light, Pine Marten Group) and friends, Caro successfully released “Interstellar EP” in 2002 on local indie label Susstones to warm reviews.
In late 2003 to early 2004, Basement Apartment compiled 13 new tracks for a more realized full-length, “Transistor!” Inspired by the AM pop of his youth, Caro continued with the lo-fi DIY attitude that has worked so well in the past. Recorded at various homes in Minneapolis, the album recruited even more collaborators this time around. Former Pilot Lighters C.A. Grooms, Steve Finch and Joey Donahue contribute on production and backbeat respectively. Ashley Prenzlow of the Mood Swings (bass), Tim Ritter of Astronaut Wife (bass), Moon Wells of My Liquid Head (bass), Jesse Peterson of Medication (guitar) and the Original Mark Edwards on vox sweeten up the mix.
In the spring of 2007, Basement Apartment wraps up their follow-up “Pine Tree Hill”. A certified “homemade album”, Pine Tree Hill is the first recording encompassing a whole band effort -- resulting in the band’s most organic, melodic and cohesive collection yet.
